Analysis of Magmatic Crystal Destruction by Backscattered Electron Imaging

چکیده
Abstract: After their crystallization from magmatic melt, minerals such as accessory zircon are often subject to different kinds of chemical impairment. This includes the radiation-induced damage crystal lattice due incorporation radioactive elements (U, Th) and dissolution mineral structure permanent action aggressive fluid phases. Both phenomena can be best studied by using specific sections electron microscopy visualization techniques (backscattered imaging, BSEI). Crystal emission α-particles corresponds a continuous transformation regularly structured into an amorphous mass. Mineral is expressed formation corrosion pits, which may refilled recrystallized material.

A Novel Approach for Automated Analysis of Cell Attachment and Spreading Based on Backscattered Electron Imaging by Scanning Electron Microscopy
The development of new materials for biological application requires in vitro testing of cell/surface interactions. Cell adhesion and spreading are difficult to quantify as most materials are non-transparent and transmission microscopy cannot be used. Contrast in reflection microscopy is rather poor. We propose an alternative method for the automated screening of cell attachment and spreading u...
متن کاملDetermining mineral content variations in bone using backscattered electron imaging.
The mechanical properties of bones are greatly influenced by the ratio of organic constituents to mineral. Determination of bone mineral content on a macroscopic scale is straightforward, but microscopic variations, which can yield new insights into remodelling activities, mechanical strength, and integrity, are profoundly more difficult to measure. Measurement of microscopic mineral content va...
متن کاملBackscattered Electron Imaging to Enhance Microstructural Contrast in Poly(Methyl Methacrylate) Bone Cement Fracture Analysis
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bone cement is used as a grout to secure joint replacement prostheses into bone. It has a distinct microstructure made up of: prepolymerized beads, an interbead matrix polymer, a radiopacifier {barium sulphate (BaS04) or zirconium dioxide (Zr02)}, and pores or voids; the radiopacifier is fmmd only in the interbead matrix of the cured bone cement. The mechanism o...
متن کاملBackscattered Imaging of Turbid Media
To study laser tissue interaction absorption and backscattering are the key factors to find the changes in structure and dynamics of turbid media such as complex fluids and biological tissues. Here a method to select suitable wavelength for maximum interaction with a particular type of tissue/tissue phantom, and study of backscattered light intensity at chosen wavelength with respect to change ...
